Dutch Passion Seeds is one of the most important and influential cannabis seed banks in modern cannabis history. Founded in Amsterdam in 1987 by Henk van Dalen, Dutch Passion helped shape the global cannabis seed industry and became one of the original pioneers of feminized cannabis seeds.
For many growers, Dutch Passion represents the golden era of cannabis breeding — a time when breeders focused on stability, resilience, potency, and preserving exceptional genetics from around the world. Long before modern hype strains and cookie-crosses dominated the market, Dutch Passion was building a legendary catalogue of outdoor strains, old-school classics, landrace-inspired genetics, and some of the industry's first truly successful autoflowers.
Today, Dutch Passion remains one of the most respected cannabis breeders in the world, trusted by beginner growers, experienced cultivators, and commercial growers alike for producing reliable genetics with strong yields, excellent resin production, rich terpene profiles, and consistent performance.
The History of Dutch Passion Seeds
The Dutch cannabis scene of the 1980s and 1990s helped create the foundation of the modern cannabis industry, and Dutch Passion was right at the centre of it.
Originally founded in Amsterdam by biologist Henk van Dalen, Dutch Passion began breeding cannabis seeds at a time when quality genetics were difficult to access and growing information was limited. The goal was simple: create stable, reliable cannabis genetics that home growers could trust.
As cannabis cultivation spread throughout Europe and North America, Dutch Passion became internationally recognised for helping popularise feminized cannabis seeds. This innovation changed cannabis cultivation forever by allowing growers to produce high-quality female plants without the uncertainty of regular seeds.
Over the following decades, Dutch Passion continued to evolve alongside the industry. While many modern breeders focused heavily on hype and marketing, Dutch Passion built its reputation on dependable genetics, real-world growing performance, and long-term breeding work.
The result is a catalogue that combines legendary classics, high-performing outdoor strains, cutting-edge autoflowers, and modern high-THC hybrids.
Why Dutch Passion Still Matters Today
In today's cannabis market, many breeders focus almost entirely on fast-moving trends and short-lived hype strains. Dutch Passion stands out because their genetics are built on decades of genuine breeding experience and proven cultivation performance.
The breeder remains especially respected for three major areas:
- Outdoor cannabis genetics
- Pioneering autoflower strains
- Classic old-school and landrace-inspired cannabis varieties
This combination gives Dutch Passion a unique position in the cannabis seed market. Their catalogue appeals not only to modern growers chasing potency and bag appeal, but also to growers searching for authentic classic cannabis genetics with proven stability and performance.

How Dutch Passion Helped Shape Autoflower Genetics
Dutch Passion played a major role in proving that autoflower cannabis seeds could deliver serious potency, quality, and harvest potential.
In the early days of autoflowers, many growers viewed autos as weak, low-potency novelty plants. Dutch Passion helped change that perception by developing autoflower strains capable of producing dense buds, high THC levels, strong terpene profiles, and genuinely impressive yields.
Today, their autoflower collection remains one of the most respected in the industry and includes some of the most famous auto strains ever created.
Popular Dutch Passion autoflower strains include:
These strains are especially popular with growers looking for rapid harvests, discreet cultivation, beginner-friendly growing, and reliable high-THC performance.
Dutch Passion Outdoor Cannabis Seeds
Dutch Passion is widely regarded as one of the best breeders for outdoor cannabis seeds, particularly for growers in cooler European climates.
Many of their outdoor strains were specifically bred to handle shorter summers, wet weather, fluctuating temperatures, and mould pressure. This made Dutch Passion especially popular among outdoor growers in the UK, Holland, Germany, and Northern Europe.
Even today, many experienced outdoor growers still consider Dutch Passion one of the safest and most reliable breeder choices for outdoor cultivation.
Popular Dutch Passion outdoor strains include:
These strains are known for strong vigour, resilience, mould resistance, large harvests, and dependable outdoor performance.
Classic Dutch Passion Strains That Defined an Era
One of the reasons Dutch Passion remains so respected is its connection to classic cannabis genetics. While many modern breeders focus heavily on trends, Dutch Passion helped preserve some of the most important old-school cannabis strains ever released.
Their catalogue still includes legendary genetics inspired by Afghani, Skunk, Kush, South African, and Haze lineages.
Some of the most iconic Dutch Passion strains include:
- Blueberry – A legendary fruity indica famous for sweet berry terpenes and relaxing effects.
- Power Plant – A commercial sativa classic known for strong growth and heavy yields.
- Durban Poison – One of the world's most famous landrace sativa strains.
- Glueberry OG – A modern resin-heavy hybrid combining Gorilla Glue, Blueberry, and OG Kush genetics.
High THC Dutch Passion Seeds
Alongside their classic strains, Dutch Passion also offers a huge range of high THC cannabis seeds designed for modern potency, flavour, resin production, and bag appeal.
Many Dutch Passion strains regularly achieve THC levels above 20% under optimal growing conditions, making them highly popular among experienced smokers and growers searching for powerful modern cannabis genetics.
The breeder’s newer USA-inspired hybrids combine elite terpene profiles with dense flower structure, strong resin production, and modern commercial-quality bag appeal.
Award-Winning Cannabis Genetics
Dutch Passion has won more than 30 international cannabis awards and High Times Cannabis Cups, cementing its reputation as one of the most respected cannabis breeders in the world.
Over the decades, their genetics have earned a loyal following thanks to their consistency, breeding quality, outdoor reliability, and real-world cultivation performance.
Few breeders have had a greater influence on the cannabis seed industry.
